Last weekend we kicked off our new "Why-Fi" series at River Valley, and it was definitely some good times. So many people worked so hard to pull together something that would be dynamic and engaging, and it was so fulfilling to see it all become reality. I had high hopes for this one, but in a lot of ways reality actually exceeded my expectations (especially the stage - check out the 'Staging' link to the right!). It was also encouraging to have so many people come to worship and experience God - last weekend was our biggest as far as attendance since I've been at River Valley.
Probably even more encouraging than the attendance numbers was the way people participated during the service. We've been working really hard over the past year or two to make our worship experiences more interactive, and "Why-Fi" has taken that to a whole new level . . .
In the past when I've participated in 'tough questions' series I always struggled with two things - first, that the questions seemed to only come from believers, and second, that the conclusion had to already have been reached in the leadership's minds before the service even started.
With "Why-Fi" people have been participating on River Valley's blog to feed us questions, and it's been awesome to get some questions from people who are struggling and obviously aren't mature Christians. That's been GREAT! The other thing we're doing it invited people to text and email in their questions while the message is actually going on. Last weekend we could barely keep up with all the questions as they were coming in. (we actually weren't able to answer even a third of the ones that were asked!)
We've gotten so much encouragement, but I think my favorite has been when people have said things like "My husband/boyfriend/best friend would LOVE this - I'm going to bring them next week." I'm not exactly sure where God's going to take us this spring, but anything we can do to introduce them to Him we'll knock ourselves out doing.
More about "Why-Fi" coming soon . . .
